2014 Mana Polynesia Harmony Day performance

Bernard’s ‘Mana the spirit of Polynesia” show on PhotoPeach
‘Mana the spirit of Polynesia’
As part of our Harmony Day celebrations we were very fortunate to be part of Bernard Mangakahia’s ‘Mana Spirit of Polynesia’ performance. Bernard took us through Polynesia by showing us dances from American Indian, Maori and Hawaiian cultures. Bernard told us stories about these people and the audience was fascinated with the different costumes he wore and the different accessories he used in each dance. Some people got to participate in the performance, using the hoops and doing some hip-hop dancing. Bernard also shared some stories about his sons. We have since viewed Kuba’s video where he danced with ‘Justice Crew” and think he is an amazing hip-hop dancer. Bernard’s advice at the end of the performance was to go home and ask our parents to share their stories with us. I wonder if you have done that, LA9 students?

There is a link in the Blogroll to a short clip on Youtube of Bernard performing at a school.

  1. Those dances were awesome! I liked the bit where he did the hip-hop and the hoop dance.

  2. I like when he did the drawing on his face. Also when
he did the humpty dumpty dance.
